Undertale music, spoilers

In terms of the Genocide route, I would argue that Battle Against A True Hero is a far more impactful song because it takes Undyne's theme and takes it out of minor chords into major, literally mirroring her switch from villain and rival to the last hope the underworld has against you, someone who literally just tried to kill a child. It gives me chills.

Bonetrousle takes a goofball song and makes you go "Oh shit... I may have underestimated him." It subverts expectations. And for a song so early in the game, it's quite impactful.

While Megalovania is definitely one of my go-to songs from the OST, Bonetrousle actually does a better job of tying into the game proper by using pre-existing motifs, and conveys the emotion of the situation better.

Megalovania is awesome because it comes out of nowhere and hits like a MAC Truck, but it has no pre-existing chords from earlier in the game, so while it makes for an epic encounter, it isn't clear what emotion is being played on or amplified by the music.

Remember Alton Brown? The Bill Nye of food? What ever happened to airing his shows? Hell, even Chopped was kind of interesting because you got to see different chef's takes on the same ingredients, though the reality TV angle got old really fast.

Just give me a show where people make food and talk about food, and it isn't Guy Fieri doing a commercial for a restaurant. This isn't rocket surgery.

I haven't had cable even once in my adult life, and a big reason for that is that literally every time I see what's on Food Network at a relative/hotel/lobby cable box it's always goddamned Diners Drive Ins and Dives. Like, I shit you not, the TV guide tonight was just a solid 6 hours of DDD. Why would I pay $150 a month so that I can not watch the one channel I have even a vague interest in. How does the head of programming at Food Network still have a job?

I should boot up my PS3 and play Flower again. That was a really nice game.

The other day on my lunch break, a coworker asked me, in a discussion about video games we liked, "can you explain to me what the appeal of Fire Emblem is?"

To which I answered, "Chess, but not boring."

With my apologies to those that like chess, I'm very proud of that answer.

Streets of New Cappena drops tomorrow and I couldn't be more stoked! Been saving my gems and gold for the past month so I can play some drafts, and I'm really vibing with the aesthetic of this new set (Art-Deco, think 20s era mobsters and flappers with a healthy splash of magical creatures thrown in). Also an emphasis on 3-land creatures, which is a meta I've never played in. I'm expecting games to be slower, but more interesting. We'll see!

Mastotip: If you tag person x in a DM with person y, both x and y will be able to see what you said. A common workaround is to put spaces between the @ sign and the username (I.e. @ sandrockcstm @

This is really key if you are discussing a moderation related issue with an admin, say if person x is harassing you. If you tag that person you can inadvertently get them to see the conversation. This is not clear from the UI and a common trap for new users.

"I am not an investment advisor and this is not financial advice" I say, before telling you to invest in my crypto-currency with all the authority of an investment advisor.

It would be funny if jobs and retirement funds didn't torpedo every time something like this happened.

The whole thing is just a complete sham, isn't it? And those not born wealthy have to keep tap dancing to the tune while capitalists keep changing the record mid dance. Absolute, utter madness.

Even if you think speculative stocks and securities are a good idea, it's probably extremely bad that a company as successful as Netflix can lose $50bn worth of valuation in a day because they didn't grow last quarter. Like, something is fundamentally broken with the system and how we assign value if "the market" misunderstood how valuable a single company was to the tune of $50bn.

But because rich people are allowed to gamble on companies failing by shorting stock, it'll keep happening.

Randomly remembered "Space Ghost: Coast To Coast" as a thing that existed on late-night Cartoon Network, where Space Ghost was a talk show host and would interview real life celebrities while his producer, Moltar, and his musician, Zorak, would taunt him and make his life miserable. It was awesome.
