Pretty interesting to see that people loved the idea of restorative justice up until we had to figure out what to do with a teenager indoctrinated by nazis.
If your solution to "this kid was brainwashed so effectively that he chose to commit murder at age 17" is to call for his execution, or life in prison, then you want the same justice system we have now just with the character roles flipped.
Your concept of justice is revealed when your most hated enemy is put on trial.
I honestly don't know how to handle a situation like this, but it's pretty clear to me that this kid was visiting nazi forums at age 16, 15, 14, maybe even younger. He didn't get the intervention he needed when he needed it, and that's a failure of society.
He did a terrible thing and he needs to be held accountable. But saying "you're a complete lost cause" is bullshit. It's just a way to make us feel better for allowing this to happen by washing our hands of him.
